electric fan

I'm building a 39 chevy pickup. I rebuilt a 283 bored 30 over and a mild cam my question is how do I know what electric fan to use? I started to build a shroud but need to know the hole size to cut. I have 17 inches side to side and more than that top to bottom.I was thinking about a 16 in circle cut leaving a little on both sides for mounting.

Select the fan or fans before cutting anything.
Depending on the dimensions of the radiator the fans should cover as much of the radiator as possible. This will take advantage of the entire cooling core.
Some fans a sold with the shroud and some have just a frame.
Also, electric fans are designed to be pullers or pushers depending if they are mounted in back of (pullers) or in front of (pushers) the radiator.
The fans will need to be controlled by the engine temperature.

Get your fan(s) 1st!..... I pulled mine off a late 90's Camaro, two fans, which allows me to have hi and low cooling. I used the Dakata Digital fan controller and am very satisified with it.

I heard fans out of a Ford Windstar worked very well.
