Although electric fuel pumps are'nt that pretty to look at, they are built to pull fuel to the carb. not push fuel to the carb. The closer to the engine the better the fuel pump will preform. As for the noise, rubber mount it!

Yep shut it off. All kidding a side,if you used the electric with the manual pump (as most do) we put a switch on it cause you really dont need a electric pump on a street car with a carb(if thats what your runnin) Turn it on when its time to race, than who cares about noise. If your running and electronic fuel injection than maybe look at the tank mounted pumps. The answer is there is no way to quiet it down.(yep rubber mounts and stuff help but it will still be loud) I was allways told the elec pumps push better than pull(why do most drag cars have them near the tank??And new cars come to think of it. Just wondering)
