Lightbulb Electric starter for '46 Pontiac

I have a partially restored '46 Pontiac Torpedo. I would like to install an electric starter and do away with the push pedal starter. Does anyone have any tips on starter brands and caution on potential problems? Thanks.

Im not familiar with Pontiacs. But I suggest you take your starter to a starter / motor rebuild shop. Ask them if they can replace the manual switch with a solenoid. I know it is possible to rework the starter for my 28 Ford, I would assume it could be done with your 46 Pontiac. It involves replacing the insulated contact with a bolt and installing a solenoid. I've been told it is a easy swap. But it will probably take at least an hour of shop time [$50 or so].

Thanks for the tips. I had a feeling it would not entail any major modifications. I presume that the starter switch could be easily adapted to a key contact.
