eletronic speedo woes

My street rod has a 90 GM 5-speed overdrive with an electronic speedo, this tranny is out of a pickup and does not have a removable tail shaft so getting in to put a manual speedo gear is not happining. I know a pulse generator works basicly like an exciter ring on anti lock brakes, but this is a new one for me. I do not think a tach is going to make it. Is the senser on the tranny a grounding devise for the eletric speedo? I would like to install a programable speedo. Help! Bob.

Many of the large companys that build guages have a setup for OEM electronic speed-O feeds now.

as mentioned , call them directly , not a vendor / re-seller
