Emergency brake cable end fix needed

I was checking inspection requirements for my truck and had a friend step on the e-brake for me while I stayed under the truck to check on stuff. As I was looking at the caliper tighten I saw the end of the e-brake (the crimped sleeve on the cable) shoot out from under my truck (good thing my skull was not in the way). Now my question is - how can I get a new end crimped on the end of this cable. I checked the local hardware store and saw a swaging tool and aluminum sleeves that are made for this sort of thing, but are these the proper tools and parts for this job? Aluminum seems to soft for this, but I'm no metals expert. Any tips? Thanks-

Hint....buy a new cable...they are cheap enough. Putting the end back on your cable is not a do it yourself job.

That end was probably welded and the weld broke. The way I terminate e-brake cable when I modify them for a rod is first cut a 1/8" long piece of 1/8" brake line. Then slip that little collar over the end of the cable that has been cut to length (already there in your case). Then I braze the collar in place forming a permanent bead that will be captured by all the usual terminal fittings. Braze is plenty strong and doesn't damage the cable if you do it gingerly with as little heat as necessary to do the deed.
