Em's first Ford Hot Rod

Well, I made it 16 days before I got back into the hobby and this time I'm even more lost than ever because I have only owned one Ford in my life and it was a PU with a 292 that I never spun a wrench on.

Anyhow, I bought this pretty sound little '62 Fairlane that is lowered (too much but I'll attack that later), has a mild cam, roller rockers and average paint (not show quality but protects the tin). Several small things such as an oil leak that I've got to find the location of and an exhaust system that's got to be changed. It has cherry bombs with NASCAR styled side exhaust that exit infront of the right rear tire. That was the "only" thing that drug when we loaded and unloaded it - - grrrrrrr I'm thinking flow masters and then out the back with the tips. The Rat's Nest in the engine bay needs major cleaning up and routing also.

Here's a very short video at idle.

Do they have support groups for Ford Newbies that are 71 years old?

ef oh or de

At first I thought you passed on it, then I got to thinking you were probably playing with it like a new toy. I think its cool even though its a ef oh or de.

You know that you can't get this hobby out of your blood, right ? So why even try ?

I've always loved those little Fords. That one looks pretty solid but, lets see once you get into it.

Good luck with it and keep us posted on your changes.

Thanks Y'all, I kinda feel like the new person that just moved into the neighborhood but I'm having fun "SO FAR". I'll have more fun once Grundy gets back with me and I get insurance. Can't wait to pick my grandson up at Jr. High with this one. He even thought the Jimmy was cool so he'll blow a gasket when this one pulls (lopes) up.

if you are using Grundy you can do it fast online , you send pictures, they send all the paper work, you fax or email it back. pay with a cc and then they email you an insurance card. can be done in a few hours. then of to the DMV.

If it's any consulation, Pal, mine barely started also - - - - it is cold natured and needs some tweeking on the carb which Bad Rat is helping me with - - - problem is that I don't have time at the moment to dive into it uninterrupted but I may in a couple of days.

When my Buddy and I unloaded the Fairlane at my house we noticed an oil leak on the trailer floor. I was just hoping that it was pan related and haven't tried to locate it until today. I added a quart of oil and then got down to see if I could see where the possible leak was coming from. Well, low and behold it was leaking as fast as I put it in and when I first saw where it was coming from I started laughing out loud and then I got pissed. I can't imagine anyone doing these "bandaid and pull ties and bailing wire fixes" like I'm running across on this Ride. Anyhow here are the pics and it looks like I might have lucked out and ?possibly? all it needs is to be cleaned up and a "PROPER" washer put in place of that 2" in diameter rubber thingie. I may frame that when I get it off. Even if I have to rethread and step up in size or put in a helicoil, I'm happy with the location of the leak.

Shouldn't that fly wheel have a cover over the bottom? Probably had to remove the cover to allow for the #$%@#@#& lowrider crap.

Maybe it just isn't thick enough Em. Try an old piece of tire.
