No I will not be painting it, I am still looking for a body shop to do it. It will be a driver but I still want it to look very good. It is a 48 chev. what are the pros and cons of each? Thanks

Either can look very good if done correctly. Single stage will look more OEM. Two stage will look more 90s or newer. Acrylic Enamel paint is likely cheaper than Base Clear paints. Most shops today spray a lot more BC than Enamels.Base clears are easily reworked if scratched or you're not happy the finish. Personaly I feel that a 40s or 50s car looks best in Single stage paint if you want extra protection you could clear over the Acrylic Enamel. Black if done right with Enamels really do an old car justice. Since you're going black I'd use a black Urethane Enamel. ( A really deep and smooth and really rich finish can be obtained ).

Third option may be better and that is single stage epoxy. Less costly and less work than base coat/clear coat and much better performer than enamel.

Single stage application with great shine and hard to damage. All the good paint companys have a version of it (PPG ,Dupount,Sherwinwilliams Etc). It stands up to a lot of abuse. Sorry I got to go .Of to Detroit Auto Extreme Hot Rod Show

Look at my project journal titled JB's 37 pickup. That is single stage black paint.
