just spent 15 minuates composing a new topic click add my computor crashed ,hate computors. speaking of HATE I HATE motocraft carbs!
have an 84 ranger 2 wheel drive 2.8 v6 . one of fords better ideas for carbs need to replace this motocraft with anything ! a person with a 5 gallion bucket would be better than this piece of pot metal ANY IDEA"S thanks |
Yes I have a Idea get ahold of Nascar and because its a ford they will let you change the rules. Then you could use a dodge part. Nascar could even make the rules so the big brown truck could win. I think holley makes a replacement for that hunk of Iron. ROY

Shoot down,
Is the carb you are talking about the Veriable Venturi. I hate them too! My dad and I rebuilt one once and it was junk regardless of what you did to it I finaly adapted an earlier model to replace it. Holley makes a direct bolt up to replace it. If it is the VV S&*#t Can it and put on the Holley. You will not belive it is the same vehicle. |
Go ahead and get the Holly, you will be glad. My
grandfather was a big time Ford man and the first thing he always did was change the carb. |
If I remember right, someone out there makes a swap kit to put a V8 into Rangers and S10's. I'd go with one of those!!! :D
|
THANKS guys, one of those things where a person needs some independent input. will check on a holly. the shades on the smilie face are cutting goggles for the engine swap you mentioned ,put in a sbc. then all I'd have to worry about is fords better idea body.
I realise this is a hot rod site BUT , if I'v got to change the carb meby I'll just do the engine swap , drop the spindles a couple of inches slip in a 10 bolt posi tub the bed cuz I'll need some good meats for traction. then my question will have been leagit cuz it would be a rod! THANKS again  |
if I'm not mistaken the standard motorcraft duce will fit if you get an EGR plate to go with it, we have done it on 302s

If you are going to swap the motor you should not need a new rearend. If I am not mistaken the rear in those is the same a s the FOX mustang. Should hold up fine for streat duty with under 500 HP.

thanks Tom . ask a friend of mine who's into race cars open wheel six's and such. anyway next day he shows up with a box of ford carbs. older ones , still have the same valve but vaccum is different so it wont blow the diaphram. planto get up early in the mornin find the hammer, circular saw and some cold chisels change one or both see which one is the best. can be any worse. next step will be the engine swap then I'd have a chefrd. heavens my life just flashed before my eyes
Thanks Tom P.S. thanks everyone, the help here is first class. still voting for rods built by owners. Roy great site!!!!!!!!!! |
A Motorcraft 2 barrel carb from a 78-80 302 PU will bolt right up on this and is a very simple carb to work on and you can pull all that vac crap off and plug, This carb is about $80 to 100.00 rebuilt from Advance parts stores, I have changed out may of these, this will run better than new.Be sure cad converter is ok! not pluged.
