Engine Block Core Shift

Hello,

I'm building my first street rod, a '50 Chevy Pickup, and I'm ready to start on the engine.

I have an early '70's 010 4-bolt 350 SBC block (free) that I would like to use. My target is approximately 400HP for this motor. I plan on making this motor a 383 stroker. Not sure yet if it will have fuel injection or a supercharger. This truck will be a driver, not a trailer queen.

My question is with core shift. I have measured the cam bores front and rear and it looks like I have about 0.100" core shift in this area. Is this too much? Should I ditch this block and look for something else? I would hate to spend the machine shop budget on a block that should not have been considered in the first place.

Before you ditch the block I would have it sonic checked. This will tell you if the cylinder bores have shifted enough to cause you any problems.

Should most good machine shops be able to do this?
