Engine bog when put into drive.

Just replaced engine in 1969 Camaro R.S.Engine ran great, decided to check the plugs to see how fuel was burning, plugs looked good.Started the car,put it into reverse and the engine just bogs.Got the car to the street, put into drive and the car fell on it's face and died, restarted, idled o.k. put into drive, bogged down again.Engine runs good with r.p.m.Got back to the house checked the plugs for tightness, checked spark plug wire boots, replaced fuel filter have not checked fuel pressure(but car runs better when r.p.m.'s are up).Plug wires are new(does'nt mean they are good).Running a rebuilt distributer with the Pertronics.600 Holley Avenger carb(replacing this week with a Holley 650).Sorry so much information just trying to nail down all possibilities. Thanks RS69Camaro

I am running a turbo 350.Don't understand why the car ran great after the engine swap.It was'nt until I looked at the plugs on one cylinder head bank that it started acting up.

Doc here,

Was it the Plugs on Left (Drivers side) Bank? 1 3 5 7...?

Check 5 and 7 for reversed application..that's exactly what it will do...

It is on the 2,4,6,8,side.I have a set of Hooker big tube headers so number six is a real pain in the "" to get to.I replaced that spark plug wire tonight and the car seemed to run better. But I took it for a drive , pretty soon realized that it was still not right.Really seems like it is loading up in gear just don't understand how it clears when you put it in park.I have the Holley 600 vac.sec Avenger on it now but I am loosing faith in the carb.Just bought a Holley 650 spreadbore as it will fit the Perfomer intake I am using better. Will change out the carb the first part of the week hopefully that will get rid of the problem. The 650 came with a thick gasket with two small holes in front and two large holes in the back,I just wonder if that is the right gasket for that intake? Thanks

Check and maybe replace your vacuum tubes to the distributor. Your vacuum advance may not be working. Also check to see if the vacuum advance diaphram is good. Do you know how?

O.K. definitely a carb. problem.Suspect big vacuum leak at the baseplate.Changed the Holley 600 to a Holley 650 spreadbore to fit the performer intake and problem solved. Thanks
