Engine break in question w/ roller cam? 96 Chevy 383

I am hearing different things when it comes to engine break in on an engine using a roller cam. I know a flat tappet cam needs to wear in properly by reving it to 2000rpm for 20min. or so. I heard the roller cam doesn't need the same break in so the only thing needed to be set are the piston rings, which I was told required a kind of drive it like you stole it break in? Anyone know the proper procedure?

Roller cams don`t require the flat tappet break in as noted. Ring seating everybody has there way. How I do so is normal drive it, then when coming to a stop downshift and let the lower gear slow the vehicle down. This is fairly quick way to seat the rings.

You do not need to break in the cam but you do need the rings to "seat". I usually vary the engine speed the first 500 miles, change the oil and then drive normally. I have done the drive it like I stole it thing also with no ill effects but would rather do it as I said above now. Peace of mind thing.
