engine build question

Hi all new here. I am gonna build a 496 and I would like to get atleast 600 hp out of it. I would like to run 92 in it so no crazy compression. Are any of those pro comp heads any good? what are the best ones for reaching my goals? It will be a strip/occasional street car. Any cam ideas? also can I get a 2 bolt but have it machined for a 4 bolt? Just wanting to pick everybodys brain so i get the most info I can before the build. thanks in advance.

A two bolt with good main bore and aftermkt studs will be fine for your application. Any of the Pro Comp heads will work. But for a lower compression motor I would use around a 290 head (O-port) Pay careful attention to cam. Build torque..

ok. thanks. how about rotating assembly? whats strong but not outrageous on price? also say if I was to bump the compression up. can I go 12-1 and run 100 unleaded? cause if I do take it to the street I dont want to get nailed with leaded. Cause it is illegal to drive with leaded isnt it?

12:1 cr will not run on pump gas. and you better not use lead on the street! Keep the compression under 11:1 or else you won't be able to use pump gas. Cast steel rotating assembly is stronger than stock and cheaper than forged.

I just built a 454 with the ProComp heads. 10.2:1 compression, and 230 at .050 hydraulic roller made 480hp and 570fptq peak with over 500fp from 2300 to 4800 RPM. I think the Brodix RaceRite heads would have made more hp. Considering the nature of 93 pump gas currently, and the likely future, I would go with no more that 10.5:1 if you want to drive on the street.

i prefer Scat over the other budget cranks, and they have a nice 496 kit that i have used a few times.
