engine code confusion
i have an engine with the casting number of 3959532, there are two lines of numbers stamped on the pad in front of the r/h head that read CE6N251 and under that number is the So824XO number any idea on how to decipher would be appreciated

The CE designates it as a crate engine.

i have looked at the site and sort of confused:the casting number says it is a 69 283 block but the numbers on the landing indicate it is a ce crate engine the next number being a 4 i am assuming it is a 74 since ce was not used till 1968 now the rset of the number says it is a saginaw built engine in aug and that it is a 350 truck engine. Do they use the 283 block to build 350 truck crate engines?that i guess is the question

That code is a 1956-67 283 number. A 283 would take a .125 overbore to make a 350, not impossible but not doable on all 283's, the main bearing size of a 283 is smaller than a 350 also.

You might need to check the bore and stroke. |
