Engine cutting out sporatically

Went for a drive tonight and the first 10 min or so in town and then out on the highway were really good, but for some odd reason when I was cruising along at about 65 the truck started acting like somethin' went wrong with the ignition. As soon as I let off the gas it cleared up and i was able to get it back home.

Now here the weird thing as soon as this happened my temp and volt gauge bottomed out and as soon as I coasted for a minute or so they went back to normal and the truck drove normal again.

Does this sound like a ground issue, or ignition, or does anyone have any other bright ideas.

Thanks in advance guys.

its 86 Silverado....I checked all my wiring and didnt see anything unusual.....

is it possible this could all be caused by a faulty ignition switch....

i never have any problem starting it.....but isnt most of that stuff powered based on a signal from the ignition switch

usually when your guages go to zero you have lossed power !!! when you checked your wiring , did you just give it a tug to see if it was tight or did you use a wrench on it ? it's best to remove all your powers and grounds 1 by 1 and clean them, if i remember correctly there is a power conector on the firewall ( a black connector with a stud and nut on it ,with a red power wire ) I seen these corroid up before or arc and cause a power loss

It could be something as simple as a corroded connection or a bad wire. Check to make sure no wires are melting on the exhaust and shorting out. I would start by cleaning all the connections first.
