My Buddy just redone his engine compartment on his race car. Not really that hard if your taking the engine out for something to begin with, but Id hate to pull an engine just for it. He reran the wires so they dont show, cleaned and painted the engine bay. Not real hard, just some thinking and routing. Some guys even cut out new shiny firewalls. I like chrome, but to much on a daily driver gets to be a headache unless you spend a ton of time each day keeping it clean. HG

JD, don't be embarresed with your Jag and SBC. Chrome and glitter are not worth 1 more HP or Ftlb, not Mpg. And besides, these guys are rodders and recognize a fellow rodder. Bet they will be interested in what you have done to the Jag! Join em, learn and enjoy.

Trees is right. Let me guess ... you're living in the East Bay area and those guys were on their way to the Good Guys show this weekend?? Sounds like you're building yourself a daily driver. They're doing somehting very different, but its still part of the same sport.

No Bluesman I live in Southern Cal and I think these guys all live in the area. Where I live there are a TON of people with cool cars but not all are Rodders. None of the cars there were trailer queens, although that pair of 56's should have been. I always see really sano engine compartments and marvel at them. I have great respect for the art of rod building. I look at your photos and my jaw drops. Many of you guys here have taught me alot in the last few months. I know I've been asking tons of stuff, This is the first SBC I've ever owned or worked on. I feel at home with a Ford or a Chrysler but GM's are a horse of a different color sometimes.
Very Best Regards Mark <RFC>< |

There is no such thing as too much chrome. Period.

your engine isn't that bad. you would be surprised what you can do with some regular spray paint and some aftermarket chrome.
just wash good, pull off all of the bolt ons, scuff, tape off and paint. its very easy and not TOO time consuming. bolt on some new chrome and/or alum. and your set. |
