engine help
i have a 1985 camaro with a 350 idk what year. it runs good and needs some work but it doesn't have enough power for me. what is a good engine swap choice, either stick with the 350 and work with it or go 2 a big block and a th400 tranny. i can get a 454 with tranny out of a chevelle for 600 bux. any help is appreciated

A 350 has all the potential that you need, and way more potential than your 7.5" rear axle can hold. A Camaro is already very nose-heavy, so I would steer clear of the big block... especially because most 454s are low compression engines that don't make much more power than your 350.
Build a 350 for it. The stock rear 7.5" rear should handle 350 lb ft as long as you don't go with really sticky tires. Otherwise, look to an aftermarket swap as there are no other easy bolt-in possibilities Pretty easy to build a 350 up to 450 hp and still be streetable with the right heads and cam, so no need for a big block. |
