Do you plan on building an engine hoist? I would say unless you have all of the stuff laying around including the jack and the casters you would probably be better of and cheaper or close to the same price to just buy one. They make very nice ones now that fold up to store in the corner of a small garage.

I do plan on building one but the reason i posted this topic was for people that wanted to also build one of their own but do not know how to build it.

I think it is awesome when people share information on stuff. I am just curious of the cost of building one. If you had to buy everything to build the hoist instead of buying one would it be cheaper?

hoist

I made a big one about 20 years ago to be high enough and a long enough reach to pull truck engines. It had and electric- Hydraulic system. Nice because I could be under the hood and operate it. Like most other stuff it's cheaper to buy than build today. For most of the stuff we do now we use the heavy duty HF model.
