engine identification

trying to find out how to determine if a particular motor and transmission on a 1966 ford mustang is original

I would guess by the Vin number to find out which S6 or V8 its suppose to have, then Decode the block casting number by the starter, to see if the year matches should start with "C6". If it matches it doesnt mean the heads havent been replaced, so you may want to check those too, just depends how original you want to be.

For the Vin decoding
A= V8 289 CID 4V
C= V8 289 CID 2V
K= V8 289 CID 4V High Performance
T= I6 200 CID 1V
