engine idles ruff in gear

i just got done refreshing up a 350 for my 86' iroc-z, anyways i have been sorting through all the little problems i have had since the rebuild. but anyways my engine idles ruff in gear, and my question is could it be cause by my cam. i bought a mild performance cam from a friend and he told me it had close to a 0.460 lift, don't know the exact specs. i was wondering if i need a higher stall converter for a cam with this much lift. i am a beginner and really don't have much experience with adding performance parts to an engine and any help i can get would be greatly appreciated.

First off..........that cam should idle smoothly..if its what you were told.

Check for vacuum leaks, adjust carb properly, make sure ignition wires are correct, timing, valves set properly.....it can be any number of things.

Make sure your brake booster is not leaking. Take your foot off the brake and see if it smooths out.

its carburated, and i know its not wires because i already got them backward, oops. um it might be timing but i have tired several different settings and its always the same. it might be valve lash, but i have also set the valves twice, and i don't think it is the break boost, as i made sure it was connected properly, but i dont know what one would act like if it were messed up. it might be the carb cause im using the stock 305 carb, maybe chocking the engine?? but i just bought a new intake and 650 edlebrock i am going to be installing later. i have had several problems with the tranny, for one i changed the pump because the damn housing broke, and when i changed it i got the line pressure bumped up. also i seem to be having a problem with the torque converter, or so i hope. when i was going through break in the damn converter lost the balancing weight, or so i was told by the tranny shop. my engine does viburate but i dont think it is the converter at idle because when it is park it doesn't viburate until about 1500 rpm's. so tomorrow i am going to change it out for i had to put the project on hold for the death of my mother.
