Post engine 'just cranked for first time'

Seems too idle too fast i.e. about 950-1050 with idle adjustment completely off the adjustment arm [no more 'less rpm adj' there]

Have high rise and big Q-jet on 327 chevy. Have checked all vacuum and no leak is there ...maybe timing is too advanced but I am thinking jets are too big for the 327.

Any ideas or suggestions? Summitt thought maybe a leak 'under the manifold'

Turn the timing back until it will run and then with it at operating temp. set timing, and carb.

yeah, if you cant get it to drop by moving the distributor you just gotta have a vac.leak. unless your float bowls need adjusting. any gas coming out the top of the carb into it?

You might check to make sure the linkage isn't holding the carb off idle.

I have had this happen to me twice with two different carburators. Both times it was parts on the oposite side of the throttle cable that stopped the throttle plates from closing all the way. It took me a while to figure it out but after a small adjustment, everything worked right.
