Engine Knock

I have a rebuilt 350 sbc bored 40 over. Almost everything is brand new. I drove the car and started to hear a little tapping noise. Its not coming from the bottom end I'm sure of. The oil lifters aren't new but oil is coming out of all of them. Sometimes I have to re-adjust the rockers because I have the full roller ball pivot kind. What is this noise and how can I distinguise if its the bottom end without taking the oil pan off or if its a collapsed oil lifter?

You say most everything is new but the lifters are old? Does this mean a new cam with old lifters? Flat tappet, have to adjust the rockers a lot? Maybe a lobe or two on the cam is going flat.Or not.
Use a length of hose on your ear and move it around on the engine trying to locate the noise.Others will have more suggestions..........

Thanks for your reply... It is actually hydr. roller cam and lifters. The cam was custom grind and it was properly checked before reinstalling it back into the motor on the rebuild. Also my dad and i took both valve covers off today and placed cardboard to see if any pushrods didnt have any oil coming up.... we adjusted a few rockers but the noise still was there... Only thing left to do is take the oil pan off and check each connecting rod.

Yesterday I checked the bottom end and all is fine. The oil lifters aren't colapsed and each one pump oil the right way. I think due to the dome top pistons I may have bent a valve when the rockers were to tight
