Welcome to the board

The first thing you need to do is identify it, is it in the valve train, bottom end, only at idle, what events led up to the knock?

Has your oil pressure dropped at idle, at normal operating rpm?

If it's in the bottom end, I would assume a bad rod bearing, or possibly a main, and you should see a decrease in oil pressure.

If it is in the bottom end, the first thing to check is the torque convertor bolts (assuming it has an automatic transmission). If the bolts are tight, you most likely have a bad rod bearing...

An exhaust leak at the header or a cracked flexplate can sound just like something going south in the motor.

You can tell if the knock is deep like wrist pin, cracked piston or a rod bearing by pulling plug wires, one at a time. If it changes in sound, be prepared to tear the engine down. Not enough info, so far, to tell you anything else.

Are you talking about "spark knock" or ping? Or a mechanically-related engine knock?
