motor mounts

I try to use what Chevy spent big $$$$$$ to design. I don't think they will be visible when you are all done. I've heard some complaints about after market mounts, vibration and stuff like that. Which ever way you go, good luck.

This is all GM stuff, you should be able to get at the dealer either Chevy or GMC will fit. The 71 had a big block option.

What is the transmission? This will affect the tranny mount if its going from a TH350 to TH400, not a big deal but one that has to be included.

You can drop it on the SBC mounts but this can create exhaust clearance and linkage issues, just a few more problems to be worked if you go that way.

the bbc will bolt into the exact same place as the sbc.

hope your th350 is in good shape.

you will need to use the short water pump set up to fit a BBC into a 71. That means brackets and pulleys for the short water pump are also required.

I used the long water pump setup in my 70. but moved the engine /trans back 1- 1.5 inches and the radiator forward (used an aftermarket aluminum mounted directly to radiator support) and still had to make my own shorter shroud.

Lots of work to get a bbc in there. Better off with a big cube sbc or go with late model LS setup which is worth the extra work due to the much better mpg.

With a 3.08 gear, you will get 8 mpg city and 10 to 12 highway (depending on speed). Even with a good mpg cam. You could just about double that with a 5.3 liter drive line swap.
