To correct what S10 Racer said, your timing may need to be ADVANCED. If the initial timing is too retarded you'll have to open the throttle blades to maintain idle speed. Advancing the initial timing will allow you to close the throttle blades and still maintain the proper idle speed. You may have to limit your total mechanical advance, but I would start by setting the initial timing at about 18* or so and see what happens. As you do this, set your idle speed back down to about 750 RPM.
