My engine is about ready to start after four years sitting on the stand. I have filled the filter with oil before installation and now wondering if any one has a suggestion for the best method of preoiling. I was thinking of putting four quarts in my portable airtank and filling up to 50 PSI of pressure and then shooting it in the front gally plug just above the water pump. Will this work?
Its a Chevrolet 350 CI V-8 and already has 1,000 miles on it.

When preoiling the engine - i used an old point distributor with the cam gear taken off (also gut the whole thing, but keep the oil drive shaft)

Use a drill and chuck in the top of the distributor and the whole thing just turns the oil pump, and sends oil through out the entire engine.

You can also pick up a similar tool at any auto parts store for, I think a $20.

Anyway, dont run your engine without preoiling it properly....

get you a big pos flat head screw driver, cut off the handle, put it in a drill, insert it into the top of your oil pump(dist. hole) and get to it. cheap way to prelube.
it should work great and you will feel it start to pump.
