engine surging at slow speed

i have a 1968 camaro with a 1970 295hp 350 5 speed i don,t know alot about the motor but do know it has a roller cam and rockers i installed a 1406 600 cfm edelbrock carb and recurved the msd dist for 33 deg total timing my problem is at slower speeds in 1st thru 4th gear it will start loping and i have to push the clutch in and clear it out. just wondering if anybody has had this happen before thanks dan

surging or loping, which one is it?

If the engine speed goes up then down then up and down (like that) with no throttle change then that is a lean surge.

I would junk that POS edelbrock carb, and get a holley 750 3310.

Just how slow of speed are you talking about when it lopes thru 1st thru 4th ?
really need those cam specs IMHO.

Dan,
What intake you running and what's your initinal timming at?

Also, do you have a vacuum advance and is it hooked up?

If it is and you have a decent size cam it should either be on a ported source and the vac adv should be limited to 10 degrees or disconnected all together.

How's that E-carb jetted & rodded?

How many turns out are your mix screws?

most of the time its just off idle in first and 2nd and up to 35 or so in 3rd i have 410 gears runs good in higher rpms and at idle have the parts to rejet carb just havent done it yet dosent matter if motor is warm or not

msd dist no advance 14 deg init timing , factory porting in carb, also dont know what make intake no name alum. cam dont know either bought car off of a office jet that didnt no anything about a car
