Engine swap?
I have a 75/79 Vette and I have a 454 with 427 heads and alittle cam in it. It will rost the tires all day long but I have 2 questions.
1) I have a guy that wants to trade me my BB for his LQ4 Vortec motor is that a good trade or Not? 2) My car keeps over heating put new water pump and termastat in it but still does it anyone have any ideals? The only thing I can think of is the fan on the motor doesnt have or give enough air to the radiator. Thanks for any help with the questions. Im new to the Vette world and have alot to learn. |

over heating
I have a 1981 vette, same car.I have a hot 434 inch mouse with no over heat problems now,,,Stock water pump,no fan.I have an electric fan on a new,,,single dimple core rad.I can idle with no over heat problems.Because I use a solid lifter roller cam I blip the throttle regularly, plus I like the sound of a big mouse drowning out imports with their big stereos.
why do you want to change the rat?small blocks are lighter if handling is an issue.Pre 82 vettes are not really known for great handling. |

Dont know about the trade but I second the electric fan idea.
I even run an electric water pump on my "hotrod" its a 350 bored 60 over and a nice cam. I can hold 180 at idle and running hard it hasnt gone over 210 degrees. I also run a higher amp alternator than stock. |

I was only thinking of small block because thats what came out in it and the BB gives off alot of heat. I just did all the frontend parts and had it realigned so handling so far is ok. I love the power of the BB but theres no room for a A/C and it makes the car so hot inside,

JMO , 74 was the last year for a BB anyway even though there should be enough room for A/C on that car IMHO not that much difference between the 74 thru 77 that i know of under the hood, and as far as it running warm/hot i agree with the others the clutch probably not doing it's job and if you still have the OEM radiator it probly needs to be pulled and properly cleaned out and problems should go away. JMO the reason i said leave the BB in instead of going with a SB is if you really like the BB the SB is not going to help with the selling factor anyway down the road those years don't really bring any big money anyway, but still pretty cool car to build and play around with i have been there. IMHO So have fun enjoy the ride. did you have to change the hood to run the BB ?Cole

I think it is the factory rad. that came on the car. They raised the hood 5 inches when they put the BB in but I put it back to the hight it ws before for 2 reasons one it was to high in the back barely could see over it and 2 I like the slimmer look. They also covered up the twin ports on front of hood but I cut those back out as well. Can I take the fan Off and just run electric fan?????
