engine is tilted back

1986 firebird 350 chevy 700r4

whenever I removed the transmission the engine is now tilted back alot, is that normal or are the motor mounts worn out?

If the trans is still out and the engine is tilted back, that is normal. The rear trans mount on the tailshaft is what supports it and gives it its balance, when everything is bolted together.

I usually prop the back of the motor up with a length of 4 x 4 to prevent destruction of the rubber in the motor mounts.
