Engine/Trans removal

Well, It about that time. I'm going to pull the engine/trans out of my s-10. If anyone has any suggestions or tips i'd like to hear them. I'm going to clean up and paint the engine and put another trans on it. I will probably need a new torque converter. The motor is a stock 350 sbc, don't know what year yet, I'm thinking a 2500 stall converter will work. The trans is a th350.

Are you looking for advice on what to do while it's out? Simple. If it leaks, fix it. If you don't know what you have, time to open it up and have a look. If it doesn't leak & you know the history / build details, then clean it up & paint it.

For a stock 350 I don't think it would be all that useful for a stall converter unless you get a baby stall thats slightly over stock stall speeds. No need to spend 300 when you can spend 120.

Just because it says 2500 doesn't mean it will. It depends on the engines torque output. B&M makes those estimates loosely on moderately modified engines. For the same converter you may stall at 1900 while a big block stalls at 3000 with the same converter.

I would recommend the lower rated B&M torkmaster's rather than the holeshot series unless you plan on doing things with the motor that would increase the output.

uhmm why do you think you need a 2500 stall converter for a stock 350 ??

just curious,

for the engine i would do the basics, new RMS and front seal and pan gsket and intake gasket and balancer seal too,

and check the valve stem seals probably replace them too

not much else really to do

if you have a deep axle ratio then i would probably go for a little camshaft upgrade and play around with the head ports a little with a die grinder and polish the exhausts real quick

but thats just me

good luck
