Hey there, just wondering if anyone out there had any ideas for upgrading / changing engines in my 59 galaxie. it has the original 332 y-block in it with around 79k miles.i would like a little more performance.Should i concentrate on this engine or look into possibly dropping in a newer engine and tranny setup. looking for some input.

You're choices run the range of Ford engines, I've put Clevelands,Windsors and 460 engines in them, most if not all used factory mounts. Since you already have the baby FE engine, I'd try and find a 390,410 or 428 and drop it in with the a late FMX or C6. You could save some money if you have the cast iron cruiso by installing a late (66 on) FMX valve body to bring the shifting up to snuff.

Well...you have basically three choices for an upgrade;

• If you stay within the FE Engine Family, a warmed over 390 would give you good basic street performance. Nice heads and intake manifold are available from EDELBROCK...
• If you want something that will pin you in your seat...a 460...
• The 5.0/5.8 will bolt in and you will have the ease and reliability of EFI and AOD fairly cheaply with smooth performance.

You might want to hang onto the 332 as a restorer is probabaly looking for one or you may decide to restore later.

Woodz; Tell me more about the FMX valve body for the Cruise-O-Matic. I have a '63 medium CI case unit that I am about to rebuild and your mod sounds interesting. What does it do for the tranny? Is it a direct bolt up? Are the FMX and Cruise-O medium case the same tranny?
