16J breaks down as Chevrolet, 1966 or 1976, Janesville WI assembly.

In 1976, the CHS code shows up as an Impala engine.

Where or how did you figure that out? I have tried everything and came up empty handed. Or is it something you learned over the years?

At this site, the engine code comes out as V=Flint plant, 05-May, 05=5th, CHS=either '75 400 from a Chevelle or '78 350, auto, 170 hp, 4 bbl out of a Camaro.

Odd the motor VIN is different, that shows 1=Chevy, 6=1976(?), J=Janesville plant, the other six numbers are the last of the original vehicle VIN.
