Enough Engine?

Didn't know if this was specific enough for the engine forum so I put it here.

We have a 52 Chev truck and we're new to the Hot Rod thing. That said, we've decided to do an S10 swap and would like to keep as much as of the S10 as possible to make it a little simpler for our first time.

Question is, is the 4.3 enough engine for the 52 body? Not looking to smoke tires and all, just want to be able to negotiate traffic and have enough oomph to pass someone on the highway, and have some half decent gas mileage for road trips.
