i had this problem

it all depends on the size of the flywheel or flexplate stock starters arent interchangeable. summit sells a starter that can go on both 153 and 168 size flywheel it saved me

I should have included that it's for a 168 tooth SBC on a 383.
I was wondering if a BBC starter might have more "oomph" and also fit, or at least fit an SBC starter nose.

heres the problem

on my car a 75 vette now with a zz383 the bell housing was a problem im not sure what ur building

The heavy duty SB starter is the same as a BB.

There is a short starter and long starter, they will fit either one depending on what flywheel you have.
