Thanks for the tip adtkart,

Looks like great stuff.

I checked out the site and forums. How does one order from SPI? I wonder if they have a west coast dist. ? I want to try it out.

Mark

I'm in the process of putting the epoxy over my street rod as we speak. I've painted for years, and have always used an etch primer followed by a high build urethane primer. On this car I'm trying something different. I use Dupont products, so I will be using their DTM (direct to metal) epoxy, but I won't use their 5717 metal prep. This stuff sucks!! I've had nothing but problems with flash rust because it needs to be rinsed. I will be using Picklex 20 over the bare metal which I will apply with a red 3M scour pad. This product does not need to be rinsed off, only wiped off. The epoxy will go over this when totally dry. I plan on doing the filler work over the epoxy ( new to me), so I hope everything works out. Mark.... I order my stuff from Baker, so I don't know if they have someone closer to the other coast. You might want to give them a call. I have seen several people from that side of the country post information on their products, so I believe that there may be a distributor there somewhere.

Hey, Aaron.

I checked around today and called the major paint distributors in town. None of them heard of SPI, some did not carry epoxy primer at all and wondered why I would even want to use it, and all tried to sell me something else like DTM. I guess the west coast is out of the loop ? Would you mind passing on your contact info for SPI products ?

Thanks, Mark

Mark, have you checked the SPI site?

"In order to quickly find a stocking Southern Polyurethanes coatings jobber
in your area please contact Baker PBE @ 1-800-476-3006 8 am to 5 pm EST."

If there isn't a local supplier, I am sure they will ship it to you pretty quickly. If you want the job to last, don't follow the advise of the sales people at the local suppliers as far as the DTM. The Epoxy is far superior to that.
