Hello I am just getting started on my new project, a 63 galaxie convertable. I restored a 53 f-100 several years ago and took it to bare metal, but used Martin Senour Self etch primer on it. I am planning on taking this to bare metal also to get rid of the 3 existing coats of paint and layers of mud. I have done some reading and I think that I am going to use epoxy primer this time instead of etch primer over the bare metal. I called my local Napa where I buy my painting supplies from to get a price and they did not even know a part number. Now I know epoxy primer is not that new, but they said no one there knew the part number and they had to call the tech line to find out. Now I am a little worried about using it from them, but I love the Martin senour and cross fire products and dont want to change. I did look into maybe using SPI, but I cant find a dealer close. Does anyone use MS or Crossfire epoxy primer? How does it work? What is the going rate for epoxy primer? I have found everything from $60 smartshoppers kit to $200 a gallon elsewhere. A paint store (parts store) that does not sell epoxy or know the part number is not an option for a place to buy your materials from.

This tells me they hardly even sell any paint so now we must be concerned with old seedy paint tints ,old activators.
I would get out phone book and find a real paint store in your area.

Buying anything from that store will just be an aggravation from old dried up body filler that will pinhole to seedy paint that looks like you mixed trash in it.
OH, it will be your fault, not theirs.

If the closest one is 50 miles, I would make the drive.
