Epoxy Primer and Etch Primer

Is it overkill to use etch primer under epoxy primer? I've been spraying the insides of my doors and my patch panels this way and I was wondering if this is correct.

Thanks in advance.

Overkill

Yup I think so..and some etch primers do not live well with epoxy..I have been using SPI 6600 series epoxy which is a self etching epoxy primer..

Works just fine..and this stuff can be used on any of the parts needing paint..

Epoxy doesn't require etch primer under it, is this a wash type primer or a self etch primer surfacer? What products are you using? Most epoxies will work over a self etch or wash type primer if applied within the recoat window.

Epoxy adheres very well to properly prepped steel, properly prepped meaning the surface is sanded with 80grit and cleaned very well. The only times I've see epoxy fail adhesionwise on steel is when the prep was poor. Scuff up the surface well and clean untill you can rub a clean white towel on the surface with no discoloration on the towel, then your ready for primer. Wash primers and self etch primer surfacers are generally a little more forgiving when it comes to prep, the high amount of solvent and acid help if the prep is poor. JMO's

I was using a 2k Nason Etch Primer and DP90LF Epoxy primer.
I wanted the etch primer on there for the extra corrosion protection since it was on the bottom of the door where I'm putting the skin on.
