Epoxy vs. Sealer

I don't do much painting, roughly one car a year. Last time I went to my local paint supplier, I asked for a gallon of epoxy to cover some freshly blasted bare steel (entire body on rotisserie, doors and fenders). The guys behind the counter recommended using a sealer. We used the sealer as the car went together and has to sit for a couple years before the owner is ready to finish. I like the sealer as it seems more resistant to water and oil stain absorption. We are aware that it must be scuffed up well prior to topcaoting and filler work, yet that would be the normal practice I would use with epoxy. Just wondering if others here have been using seal over bare metal rather that epoxy. Please let me know for what reasons I should or should not be using these products.

I used the epoxy on some parts to seal them and they have been in storage for a long time now with no rust..the epoxy also serves me as a primer so I only need one product rather than several which saves me valuable cash..

I use SPI products..

Epoxy is your best choice.

Let the morons at the paint store mislead the guys that are going to top coat with rustoleum
