I have an ESAB plasma cutter and it is great for a hobbyist. I have looked at their welders and discussed it at length with the store manager, who I consider a friend that would not steer me wrong. He basically said that the ESAB unit that matches a like Miller unit will serve my purpose just as well as the more expensive Miller. However, if I was a professional shop withe lots of work, then definitely go Miller. Right now, our off brand MIG is ok, but after 12 years and 16 cars, it is on its last legs. Have a Snap On unit that is 110 that we use on sheet metal and it gets all the light duty work. For the really heavy stuff, we use an old Craftsman stick welder. If we were to decide to get another Mig, it would be a big ESAB and retire the Off brand and the Snap On. The old Craftsman will just hang in there

Trees.

thanks Trees.
hey, have you ever noticed a 'century' sticker anywhere on your snap on ?
damn the luck. i just found out that esab is based in india. maybe thats why miller is nascars official welder and not esab?..........:D

but esab has this dammit......

Jesse James quit using lincoln and miller altogether. I talked with him at the aws show in dallas this past april and he said that he switched to esab because it was a more dependable machine. as a matter of fact he has his own line of welding machines through them.

A local welding shop began using ESAB 8 or 10 years ago and had two machines running most days. He said they are great and will continue to use them. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase one. David

The plant where I work builds a lot of the electronic components in ESAB equipment. Go ahead and buy ESAB knowing you're supporting American workers

Kind of a good feeling to know that when I watch monster garage that he may be using something the I built!

Oh yeah and Jesse James isnt a product whore. This guy also said that he likes auto zone too. Hmm.. who did he recently do an ad for?

If you ask the OCC guys who they prefer i'll be Miller..again Miller gave them a bunch of equipment (and signs for their shop) when they did the ..you guessed it Miller Electric Bike...

I dont mind celbrities endorsing stuff, but most of the time this is based on sponshorship and says nothing of quialty.

with that said. Im planning on getting some esab stuff, i think they're stuff is more in my price range...

Esab is one of the largest welding equipment manufacturer in the world. They are a little cheaper than Miller and Lincoln, and comparable in quality. We have a 50 AMP plasma and its been used daily for the past 4 years with only one minor glitch. A solid buy in my eyes. North American made? Even better.
