Stacked rubber gasket?

Not like I never did that before.

Your apartment deductable should be the only thing at loss here, landlords love to take the deductable. The tow sucks and the guys obviously a little trigger happy (too many late night parties? ).

From now on park with the exhaust facing his apartment and be sure to let it warm up at 7:00AM on high idle for awhile while "Lets Lynch the landlord" by the Dead Kennedys or Presidents of the United States blasts from your car stereo...windows open to defog the glass.

Leave it on repeat.

Just kidding of course, wouldn't want to get the boot.

how did you loose 5qts of oil?

I understand you may have installed the wrong filter...right? Do you mean 5qts leaked out when you fired up the engine after the oil change?

I'm a bit boggled too. THere wasn't that much on the ground! Maybe it came out during the tow? Seems impossible...

Perhaps when I moved it out of the tow lot it spat some out too... good thing I run an 8 qt system...

so I saw some dufus and his fat girlfriend poking around the cleanup today. Got sheepish when he saw me and quicly put the broom down and went inside (in the entrance that was further to walk to, but not next to me).

Guess we know who called on my car!

Now I just have to figure a way to cost him about 110 dollars...

The landlord is either an ***, or you are living in a ridiculously uptight apartment complex, or both. Generally the more rent you pay the less freedoms you have, but that's the price you pay when you want a spotless parking lot.

You should at least do the right thing and clean your mess up (Tide, a shop broom and water work well).

And do what Chuck suggested.

Warm up procedure for your car should include holding at approximately 3000 RPM while snapping the throttle repeatedly. After she's half way warmed up (the longer the warm up time the better), hold it just off idle where the resonance is the loudest and make sure to hold it at that RPM while slowly creeping out of the parking lot. That should make it difficult for him or anybody to hear the morning news (or think).

Wow killer, thats bad luck, Your landlord must be a jerk. It gets cold in Michigan, your car will take at least ten minutes to warm up every morning, better get a pair of exhaust cutouts.

The guy who ratted you out, find out what he drives and take his drain plug out one night, let his oil run out in the parking lot, put the plug back in and complain to the landlord about all the oil in the parking lot.

Hey 4 Jaw I know a little bit about stacking gaskets. Did it at work one day, put about 2 quarts of oil on the shop floor. The boss was pissed to say the least. Just one of those things. Killer, Iv'e heard a lot of stories about clamps on coolant hoses "mysterioulsy" coming loose. Could happen to anybody.

The plastic bag over the carburetor used to work quite well (in the old days when most cars had a carb), but I don't know why it wouldn't work on a fuel injected vehicle in a strategic location. It was a real hoot to watch some idiot try to start his car. Just a thought.

Some of these rental places...

are tight ***ed when it comes to anything besides parking in the lot or mowing your own grass. Guy told me the flag he hung out got a letter from the manager to the effect it had to go..a call to the news paper got a reporter out to ask management what's up with that and now its OK to fly a flag??? Just who did they want to protect...or NOT offend buy flying the American flag was my question? There are some really stupid people with authority out there who abuse it.

well in any other situation that this happened I'd just nut up and say, fine, I screwed up, I caused a problem and I'll take the rap. And up to this point that's what I have done. I had to pay for my towing, but I really don't feel like I should have to pay to fix the lot... I went out there and looked and honest to god there's a little stain but really nothing wrong with it. I was working on my car a few weeks ago and one of the crew said he was going to topcoat the thing and kick all of our cars out in a few weeks anyway, so if he pull this "now I have to topcoat the lot and you have to help because you screwed it up!" I know its just an excuse to do what he already wanted to do and have somebody else's wallet involved.

Here's what else kinda is POing me about this crap. I was working on it about a little over a week ago and the landlord drove into the lot. I said hi and he walked over and said "WOW I didn't know you had all THAT under the hood, that's cool! DId you do that all yourself? Man I didn't realize!" So he knows I'm out there working on the thing, he knows the car is mine, he has my apartment number, my email, my cellphone number but he doesn't contact me at all. He just yanks my car and leaves a note in my apartment on a dirty shop towel. I could have done the cleanup myself if it was that much of an issue.

We'll see I guess...

you need to communicate that to the man. and you know my sentiments on the man. but you should tell him how you really feel. Be open and honest.

And be prepared to move also (probably not a bad idea to move out of that tight ***ed place anyhow).
