Ever Use Evapo Rust?

Has anyone used Evapo Rust that Harbor Freight sells? I have some small surface rust spots on a truck box where the floor meets the sides of the box. The floor is checkered aluminum and the box is obviously primered steel. Anyone ever just paint the stuff on and then wiped it off. Does it work and if it does what do you finish the area off with? Getting ready for a paint job and need these areas addressed first. Also, will Evapo Rust affect the aluminum if it is accidentally brushed on?

Evapo-rust needs to stay in contact with rust for several hours so you can't just brush it on, unless you get the gel version. It will have no affect on the aluminum. In my opinion the best use for this stuff is for restoring small parts that you can completely submerge. If some section of the part sticks out of the solution, you get a black line etched into your part at the surface.

Some people soak shop cloths with it and put it on rusty things they can't submerge, but I haven't tried that yet.

It really does work, just slowly. If its just surface rust sandpaper would be faster. If you do use the Evapo-rust make sure you thoroughly clean it off before painting.
