I personally like the thrush welded mufflers, they are made by dynomax who puts out in my opinion the best mufflers around and don't charge an arm and a leg. The thrush welded mufflers are built very similar to the flow master 40's and 44's but they actually flow much better and cost half as much at around 37.00 a piece.

I once had a great sound out of my 305 .30 over, by using a cat for a muffler. I like the flowmaster 40 on a 5.0 ford. Right now prefer my dump over the flowmaster W/e that's after it.

I perfer Turbo mufflers. They give a nice deep tone at low rpm and are quiet at cruise speed. They sound off nicely at wide open throttle. You can go on YouTube and find all kind of videos on various exhaust systems and mufflers. This will give you a good idea of what sound your looking for.

These too are very good mufflers, they are a bit quiter than the thrush welded but give of a similar note. The thrush welded mufflers with still have a good amount of sound at crushing speed (not too much) where as the dynomax turbo's will soften up at crusing speed. The thrush welded are a bit quiter than straight glass packs but the don't have the annoying popping or cracking that glass packs have
