I am close to putting a dual exhaust with flowmasters. It was brought to my attention to consider where the tail pipe ends.
Before the differential under the car or traditionally out the back.. Pros and cons? Thanks |

hey man i have a 1970 Chevelle with a 383 stroker. it has flowtech headers to 3 inch exhaust all the way to just right in front of the rear axle housing. the mufflers are 40 series, 2 chambered mufflers and it sounds pretty rad but a bit on the loud side (with turn downs). if i were to do it again i would get a little more pipe after the muffler to quiet it down but oh well. you wont get caught by cops or anything so its not that loud. um............ if i were you i'd put it out right in front of the back tires, that looks sweet. just think of a fat 3" pipe sitting there

dk01_99: I watched 'Gone in 60 Seconds' (the remake) last night and the 67 shelby mustang had the exhaust right in front of the rear tires. It looked really cool. I am leaning that way. I'll post a pic when it is done. Thanks for the info.

You want to put them far back as possible, it keeps the exhaust gases hot and faster flowing.This was done on Vettes and always stayed that way for 50 years. Also the color of the headers and pipe make a differance, Hot Rod or one of those mags. done a dyno test, silver or white made a differance of 7 to 12 HP because the flow did not cool as fast as black. FYI

1BAD80 are you foolin with us?! Color makes a difference!! How about "au natural"? Let us know what you decide, ffcagle, I'd like to see how it turns out. I'm dumping mine out just behind the rear wheels. Hope the smog police like it.
