Exhaust Cross Connections Other Than X or H?
Is there any reduction in noise or drone by installing a interconnecting pipe between true duel exhausts that is neither an H or X, but more like a U?
There is no room in my 1939 Olds chasis to use an H or X in the true duel setup (2.25 inch pipes through IMCO passenger mufflers). But the Olds V8 engine originally had a crossover pipe from the drivers-side exhaust manifold to the passenger side exhaust manifold. The inlet to the passenger side was blocked when installing the duel exhaust and the crossover pipe was tossed.
I am trying to reduce the drone at about 1500 rpm and was considering asking the muffler shop to install a crossover pipe from the drivers side below the exhaust manifold to the old inlet to the passenger side exhaust manifold.
Or, just weld a crossover pipe between the two exhausts pipes-- the corssover would go under the shallow part of the oil pan where the original pipe ran. More like a 2 foot "U" pipe.
Anyone have have experience like this?
