Exhaust help

my names chris im new to this forum. i love the old muscle cars but right now im driving a contour i do have a 1974 for f100 with a 302 im going to restore that in the future haha, right now im just trying to man up my 1998 contour se sport. but my question is my friend told me that i could get my muffler to sound louder if i got it hot and spray water into it( not hitting the catalyc converter, not sure about spelling) that it would break the stuffing out of the muffler what i want to know is will this lessen the performance of my car any or will it mess up and sensors or anythiing or will it maybe unrestrict the air flow a little bit? lol i dont want to do it if it will mess up something.

re: Exhaust help

I think when searching for performance in a car, it is best not to modify your parts with a water hose. Replace the muffler with a high flow unit.

re: Exhaust help

We used to do that all the time back in the 60's. It only works on glass pack mufflers and it will make them loud. We did not have catalytic converters to worry about then. I would think the water would mess them up.

re: Exhaust help

Running a water hose up the pipe is not going to accomplish what you are looking for. What you need to do is just take care of the car and drive it while you are saving your money to get a V-8 powered car.

re: Exhaust help

I agree with Mr. Highrise. You could do the fairly cheap stuff like exhaust and cold air intake but your not going to feel it in the seat of your pants. You could strap nitrous on that thing and you would feel that but thats probably not the way you want to go. Enjoy the gas mileage you get with your 4 banger and save and buy something worth rodding.

Really.... it's a boring car that is not worth wasting time modifying in this way. And God knows there are enough crappy 4, 6 and even many V8 vehicles already, with loud exhaust that no one really wants to hear. Drive it as the mundane driving appliance that it is. When you get something worthwhile, then worry about modifications. Even my 450 HP daily driver is fairly quiet until it goes to WOT. Noise is not power and no one with a lick of sense cares nor are they impressed.

It's A duratec engine? you already have the basis for a real rocket but you are looking in the wrong forums . The English have those things screaming and for very little money invested, over there. Check out some Duratec specific forums .
