Exhaust Help

Hey,
I have another question, is there any kind of exhaust systems that might add a little bit more HP to my car(81 Camaro)? Dual Exhaust?

Yep- Dual exhaust would sure add a little to the ponies. There has been some great information in the lst couple of issues of Hot Rod magazine about exhaust setups and dyno testing to determine what provides the most punch. You should also call the big names in the exhaust and headers manufacturers and talk to their tech guys. They will know what direction you should go for whatevr your goals are. Be sure to have the specs on your motor available so that they can help you. Good luck. Mike

There are more to mufflers than flowmasters . In fact, I think many other brands "outflow" them. Keep in mind Borla, Dynomax, Magnaflow etc. Almost EVERYONE has flowmasters . . . dare to be different.

I agree there are options with mufflers, and the same is true with headers. Again, the article is a recent Hot Rod magazine has tips regarding header tube sizes and shapes, collectors and pipe sizes so if hp is your goal check out the research done and ask the guys at the various companies. Mike

81Blue tell us some more about the specs on the engine, we can give you a exhaust size recommendation.

Also an H pipe will help you out with horsepower, torque, and add a cooler sound. An x pipe will give you even better results than an H pipe, but it cost more.

This site will help you find the best flowing mufflers http://www.pontiacstreetperformance....p/exhaust.html

In that case I wouldn't waste my money on a new duel exhaust if your just going to change out the motor.

I used to have glasspacks on my truck. It had side exhaust that come out right under the doors. Looked kinda wicked but man was that LOUD! They didn't last long let me tell you.

Understandable. But I quickly found girls didn't like the sound of my engine nearly as much as I did. Funny how they can make you turn against yourself so quickly lol.

I didn't know they put 3.8's in 81 Camaros.

Better hold off on the exhaust until the V8 is in.

X-pipe and glasspacks. I'm not familiar with O2 sensors but I dont think you car will have one.
I always thought h-pipe was cheaper than x-pipe but didnt really work? Might as well go for the x in my opinion.
