Exhaust How Loud

well I know how loud your car is depends on muffler, But i was wondering how much louder the 400 sbc with headers and flowmaster 40 series 2.25 dual pipe
would be
than
a 305 sbc with headers and flowmaster 40 series 2.25 dual pipe

Probably, not much, if at all......but the tone would be much nicer, I am sure.

i had a 305 in my truck with full headers, 2.5" pipe and an H-pipe with 40 series flows. it was mellow and sounded decent.

i swapped in my built 350 and with the same exhaust except shortie headers and it was 10x as loud.

use 3" pipes and and x pipe. you won't be dissappointed. sounds real revvy and bad *****

but yeah, that actual amount of sound would probably be a little louder just cause it would probably be moving more air and fuel - more energy = more noise I think.

Might not be totally predictable, though. I have 2 Novas, one '69 and one '72. Both have factory-style dual exhaust, no headers, and identical Midas transverse dual-in/dual-out mufflers. The '72 has a 350 with the factory hydraulic L-82/Z-28 cam, and the '69 had a stock '59 283 and now has a stock '67 327. The '69 was louder with the 283, and the '72 is quietest of all.
