Exhaust location advice needed. Pic enclosed
I'm busy installing the exhaust on my 28 Dodge street rod project, but I'm stuck on where I should make the exhaust come out. I kinda like the look of the exhaust coming out the sides in front of the rear wheels, but I'm concerned about the noise. If I make it come out the rear of the car, the tips seem too low and too close to the fuel tank. Any ideas or comments on the pros and cons of both locations. The picture enclosed has the side exhaust mocked up on the driver's side, and the rear exhaust on the passenger side.BTW, I plan on towing a small mullins type trailer, and don't know if the rear exit exhaust would cause problems. Thanks. Dan

re: Exhaust location advice needed. Pic enclosed
IMO i would come out right before the rear wheels if you want to hear it
i had a buddy that had a 57 chevy P/U and he had straight pipes out the back no mufflers1 I was real surprised when i got to ride in it because it was loud if you were not in it but in the cab it had a slight rumble you could talk listen to the radio no problemo definitely no sneaking in late @ night so w/ mufflers out the back i think you would barely hear it out the side would be throatier good luck in which ever you choose i always wanted to put super trapps with a set of dumps right off the headers ps nice ride sr66

Gorgeous looking car Hemi43!!!!!
Sometimes the tone of the exhaust sounds VERY different to the driver with the side dumps. My brother did side dumps and really didn't like the sound of it, I stood on the street and it sounded identical to his dumps as far as I could tell. I'm thinking maybe he could hear ONE pipe clearly when driving, and it probably sounds strange when he was accustomed to hearing the sound of both equally? Did I mention your car looks gorgeous...? |

If you choose the side route a nice diameter cross-over pipe is mandatory and some muffeled exhaust tips are nice {Monza makes some chrome & angle cut tips that are very mellow}.
