exhaust tick?

i have a 71 sbc 350. in a 84 el camino. it has a ticking sound coming from the passenger side. u dont hear any tick at the engine, u only hear it at the tail pipe. ive changed the exhaust n the sound is still there? any suggestions would help...

try stuffing a rag in the tail pipe while its idling.If the noise gets louder then trace it to the leak

My guess would be a burned or cracked exhaust valve.
