Hi, I have been searching the web for awhile and cannot find any sites dedicated to motorcycle exhaust design. I stumbled apon this site and wondered if the exhaust design for rods is the same or similar to that of bikes. I build Yamaha XT500 bikes and need to try and modify the exhausts as I feel the single cylinder thumper should be capable of more. I do not want to go ahead and modify the engines themselves, I purely want to try with the exhaust, do you feel this may work or am I wasting my time?

All the discussions we have had concerning header design for autos apply directly to 4-cycle bike engines. Do a search, lots of good info here. However the principles are a little different for 2 cycle engines. I am not a biker so don't know whether the Yamaha is 2 or 4. diverging/converging pipes seem to be the hot tech for 2-cycle engines. This guy has a pretty good explanation of the principles but doesn't go int the math. So does this guy even though he is talking about model airplane engines. This guy throws a little math at the design and discusses it with more words.
