I wouldn't really call it an exotic, but a guy I work with has a 29 ford with a blown flathead. Its definitely unlike any blower I ever seen, and like he says it may take a week to go 0 to 60 but I look and sound cool doing it. LOL I think he said the blower was from the 30's. I'll have to get one of his pics and post it. I'm sure one of you guys knows something about it.

Yes please. I wish I could remember what thier called....Piton Pitvot.. ..Anyway. Is it mounted on the front of the block? Yeah...I love those but I'd have to have an extended nose I think. Try to find a pic. Youve got me curious. I have a pair of Flat Heads....probably no good though. Been outside for years. Got them from the fella that sold me the 41. There they were...out in the field. I thought I was saving them. I doubt theyre salvageable.

Yep the one pictured is a 4.2. Notice the LACK of a forward facing throttle body? Bill (the owner) is conjuring up a throttle body setup using '8' individual throttle bodies... and a host of other MODS.

I hope that he gets his butt in gear or this project may never lift off...

Cool nonetheless.

Maserati Quattroporte rod..

Here is a Jag XK engined rail

XK motors are not very expensive as they were used for 40 years. XJ sedans up to about 1986.

Docc....I love that Maserati engine. I've been looking through different search engines and found a high mileage 81 for $4000 for the whole car. I'm still digging. Thats one cool engine. Sort of reminds me of a Rolls-Royce I saw once.

Got any pics of a XJ 5.3 V12 in an open frame....where I can see what they look like in the open?

EDIT: Never mind....that is the V12 that came in the XJ. Sorry. Got confused about the XK thing.

Dave

Ok....I really like that. My wife is rolling her eyes. LOL's. Now if I can find one to get some measurement....and the GM automatic is a plus! Thanks Docc. There should still be quite a few of the old XJ's out there compared to some of the other engines I've been looking at. Would you concider these reliable? Had a friend with a 90's model Soveriegn series....and it stayed in the shop. Just curious?

Again, not too exotic, but a common choice is the Jag V12. There are enough intake options out there to make it look really exotic. You can at least disguise it and dress it up, and for cripes sake its a V12. Here's one in a Miata.

Honestly, if I'm itching for a project, I cruise Ebay. Start typing in things like V10, V12, ferrari, lamborghini, or something else.

Close...Potvin..

Exotic......Helicopter turbine.....Nah, been done already

JATO unit....just a bad idea all 'round

How about 3 harley motors , coupled crank to crank. That would make a 240" V 6 with a sound like no other. You would not be able to see out of the mirrors, but it would be exotic.

(you could couple them so they fired every 120* apart)

Just being weird,

Later, mikey

LOL's. In a Miata. Thats proof that a man can always find room for anything. Yes...I like the Jag 12!

Yes. Thats it. Potvin. That is sooo cool! I wanted to do that with my 36 and found a machine shop that specialized in them.....but I decided I didnt want the long nose.

How do they couple the big multi engine tractors for the sled pulls? Or better yet....a back to back. Sound like it would be a real bear trying to get the blocks together and the cranks at the same time. I could see indexing the cranks so they would be in time....but I just cant see getting them together. I'd like to see a pair of IRL Aurora motors pinned together!

Dave,

Regarding the SHO Yamaha the V8 96-99, there is/may be a cam issue. But if you get one that is running the fix is easily solved by a few welds.

There is also the Yamaha SHO V6 89-95, no issues with that engine.

Thanks Bill. I read a couple articles explaining trouble with the SHO related to cam chain tensioner problem and close valve to piston clearance. I am leaning toward these smaller displacement V8's (including the Aurora V8) as the machine I'll build will be very small and light. Wont need much in the line of umph to push her. I found a couple articles where they mated the earlier version of the 700r4 to the back of the Aurora block. I'm thinking that coupled with an aftermarket distributorless ignition and Strombergs might get me away from the OBDII. Just a thought. I really dont want to have to run a stand-alone e.f.i.

I found this link for race prep'd engines. Very interesting stuff. Prem'o $'s. Really like the Lotus Twin Cam.
